Ogre
The AI platform for energy management
Ogre.ai is a B2B tool that helps utility companies to have a better overview of the demand and consumption of energy using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. During 5 months I worked closely with the development team to design data layouts based on the API solutions.
Challenge
The software development was initially done by an external collaborator and consultant, who developed the first phase of the design. Subsequently, the decision was made to integrate the next design phases into the company and work with the in-house design department. This is where I joined the project.
The product is categorized into four main energy fields: Electricity, Heating, Water, and Gas. Each energy category has its own specific data and forecast management, including: Solar, Wind, Load, Anomalies detection, Network Losses, Price forecast, and Storage.
The objective was to design a user-friendly interface based on charts and tables, making it easy to comprehend all the information resulting from the forecasting system.
Role, Scope, and Constraints
As the Design Lead, my role was to build upon the design templates created by the external collaborator and develop new solutions for additional functionalities. I began by refining the first two energy fields, solar and wind, before moving on to designing templates for Load and Anomalies Detection.
All templates needed to be designed based on the API architecture. I closely collaborated with the Product Owner and the development team, addressing any issues or blockers in our weekly grooming sessions and daily status meetings.
The only constraint I faced was to design the solutions based on the Ant Design System. Although custom components would have been the best solution for certain features, I had to find workarounds and utilize the existing design system.
Approach
Given the Agile implementation, I adopted Lean UX cycles, leveraging my rapid wireframing and prototyping skills to generate different solutions. All prototypes were thoroughly tested with stakeholders and utility companies.
Key Takeaways
- I maintained effective and continuous communication and collaboration with the Product Owner.
- All assets were designed using smart components, enabling quick and easy manipulation of large amounts of data, rows, and columns.
- Leveraging fast prototyping and UI skills, I created rapid mockups to provide the Product Owner with a clear understanding of each screen and solution.
- I facilitated the product's funding, ensuring its continued development according to a 2-year roadmap.
